Metal Statues of Nepal

Metallurgy is still quite prominent in Nepal; and this can be evidenced by the fact that there are a number of precious and semi-precious metals in the historical artifacts and modern artworks visible in the country. Although there are a number of interesting metal pieces here, such as the singing bowls (or standing bells) and the hanging gongs, the metal statues of Nepal still attract the most attention from local and international buyers.

The metal statues of Nepal are intricately crafted and carry very fine details. Of course, the choice of metals used like gold, silver and bronze may command top prices, but more discerning buyers and art enthusiasts prefer metal handicrafts that have either historical, cultural or religious overtones. The most favored ones are of those that represent all three.

Most of the traditional metal artworks are inspired by Buddhism and Hinduism. Buddha is a favorite subject here and there are numerous metal statues and statuettes carved to symbolize him. Most of the Buddhism inspired artworks in Nepal are rather base in design. There is that fine attention to detail, true – but additional colors and ornamentation is usually not the norm. On the other hand, the carved depictions of gods, demigods and famous religious Hindu figures are most often crafted in fine semi-precious metals, encrusted with gems and other colorful ornamentations.

Some metal statues of Nepal are strictly historical, based on the sentiments of the ancient peoples of the land, like the Nordic Aryans and the nomadic Mongolians of the mountains.
