More than just a Bell “Tibetan bell and Dorje"
For Tibetan Buddhists, calling the presence of the Buddha is a part of their rituals. It is by this way they are able to seek enlightenment. As an accessory to the rituals performed by Buddhists, the use of the Tibetan bell and Dorje are most likely typical to be seen in their rites. They are used prior to the prayers uttered or sung chants. The use of these ritual items allow the emptying of the mind from all worldly elements or state that may hinder focus on meditation. As for another purpose, the Tibetan bell and Dorje is a proper instrument, capable of dispelling the feeling of stress and the surge of tension.
During the earlier times, these ritual items were already used mostly by their ancestral gods. According to some, the Tibetan gods were able to produce lightning or thunderbolt by the use of the Dorje. In symbolical ways, the Dorje represents the balance of the sexes. Since the male gender is perceived to be more dominant than the female, the Dorje is very much in favor to draw the creative force of the male energy. On the other hand, the Tibetan bell, symbolically speaking was used to represent the traits of the divine goddess, such as wisdom and femininity.
The use of the Tibetan bell is not as complicated as it looks. It is held by the left hand ring before moved like the usual bell. The sound it produces sends out a balance between the negative and positive forces moving around one’s life and environment. The Tibetan bell is a common instrument along with the Tingsha, used by practitioners of an art called feng shui. These objects are used to clear space.
As for the Dorje, it also provides the same thing as the Tibetan bell and the Tingsha. However, the manner on how it is used is a lot more different. It is by simply placing the Dorje in between the forefinger and the thumb on the right hand, making a clockwise circular motion with the wrist. This is done while holding the Tibetan bell.
