Prayer flags
Buddhist Prayer flags are colorful pieces of cloths that are often found hanging along mountainsides and peaks. The purpose of which is to bless the surrounding villages or for shield of the unknown. There are two kinds of Prayer flags, one is the “Lung Ta” which means the Wind Horse and is horizontal, and the second is the vertical flag “Darchor” Dar means increase in life, wealth, fortune and health, “Cho translates to all sentient beings”.
Tibetan Prayer flags are imprinted with
symbols that are hopeful mantras and invocations. For centuries, these flags are planted and seen outside homes, mosques and other places of spiritual practices, it is usually place in high place so that the wind can carry the positive vibrations and attract beneficial vibes around the surrounding areas. It is also believed to bring happiness, prosperity and long life to the planter and the surrounding vicinity. It is used to promote peace, strength, wisdom and compassion throughout the area.
A big misconception is that the flags carry the prayers to the gods. The truth behind this flags, is that when the wind blows upon this flags, the prayers and mantras inscribed in the cloths will be blown away to spread goodwill, compassion and happiness to the surrounding villages. This flags becomes a part of the universe as the images fade from everyday exposure. This symbolizes life and renewal of hope for the world, an act that signifies life changes, unity and harmony, acceptance that all living things are part of a greater cycle.
