Tibetan scarves, Kata is a symbol of culture and tradition. This white scarf or kata is offered as a welcome greeting or it is given to a person who is going on a trip. They are made up of different cloth textures such silk and cotton, the scarves bear the symbols of hope, prosperity and happiness. This Tibetan Buddhist tradition is used to honor someone by draping the Tibetan scarves Kata around the person’s neck. It is also a custom to tie a kata around the neck of a dead lama. This is a sign of petition for his speedy return and when his body is reincarnated, his relatives will recognize him.
