Shakyamuni Buddha who is the founder of Buddhism tendered numbers of medicinal information which was presented in the Four Medicine Tantras. His teaching became the principal basis of the medicine used in Tibet which was emphasized with the teaching that all bodily ailments are nothing but psychosomatic that takes place due to three poisonous manners which include: hatred, greed, and ignorance. He further highlighted that that only if these attitudes are cured then a person be able to truly obtain a good life.

Now, the Medicine Buddha statues are believed to possess a unique power to heal sickness by merely reciting his name along with the mantra. Buddhist tradition recognizes the ability of such figurine to be the most ideal healer of all. Such belief became so popular that the Medicine Buddha is represented in various forms in different countries. In Tibet, he is recognized as the Sangya Menla, Japan as the Yakushi, in China as the Yaoshi-fo, and in Sanskrit as Bhaisajyaguru Vaiduryaprabhu. Basically, the Medicine Buddha statues are available in deep blue color which is referred to as the lapis lazuli blue that is also popular for its curative effects.
