Laughing Buddha
Buddha is available in wide range of kinds that are used for various underlying reasons. The fat laughing Buddha is one good example which is also known as Hotei in Japan while in China it is known as the Pu-Tai. Famous among Taoist, Buddhist, and Shinto- the person symbolize by these figurines are better known for his huge round tummy which is usually seen with a smiling face. Sometimes, the figurine may be presented by a large man who carries a cloth sack that never seems to be emptied. Most of the time, the sack is filled with food, sweets for kids, rice plants, valuable items, etc.
This happy laughing Buddha figurine symbolizes the integrity of Buddha to be the patron for the needy, weak, and children. And since it is a laughing Buddha, it is expected to take away afflictions and sadness which result for the figurine to attract good luck, satisfaction in life and wealth. Equipped with a wishing fan, he is known to grant every people’s wishes.
Fat laughing Buddha in Feng Shui is a representation of prosperity thus making the piece a nice add-on to every work, home, or temple. There is however a slight perplexity of the true nature of the happy laughing Buddha figurine since it is not actually related to the person behind Buddhism though there are strings of Buddhism that consider it as the incarnation of Maitreya Buddha. On the other hand, the belief that you can rub the belly of the figurine to bring good luck is actually an irony to the true belief of Buddhism.
