Buddha Mandalas
Mandala is a word that came from the Indian Sanskrit language that translates to “circle”. It pictures a circumference that symbolizes a lot of things included completion and coherence of systems. The
Buddha Mandala is a type of mandala and the lost widely known is that of the
Dhyani Buddhas.
Buddha Mandalas are graphic representations of the
five Pancha Buddhas, which include Vairochana. Akshobhya, Ratna Sambhav,
Amitabha, and Amoghsidhi.
These Buddha Mandalas depict the magical circle free from human suffering. This circle is pure and cleared from the struggles of living that people go through when they haven’t found the truth and the enlightened state yet.
The
five Dhyani Buddhas that make the Buddha Mandala are symbols. They are seated in a circle to signify the concept of wholeness of completeness.
Vairochana, the primary Dhyani Buddha sits at the center of the Buddha Mandala. This image is considered the master since he demonstrates all the qualities of Gautama, the Buddha. The other four deities are positioned accordingly: Akshobhya at the east, Ratna Sambhav at the south, Amitabha at the west and Amoghsidhi at the north.
The Buddha Mandala serves as the teaching aid for Buddha’s wisdom. It is also referred to as a sacred space for meditation and trance. Buddhists use this as the instrument in attaining their union with the unconscious state of mind. This state helps them attain oneness with the cosmos or the natural order and harmony of things around them.
The mandala in general, has been applied to many things and religion but it’s concept like in the
Buddha Mandala, still revolves around the concept of putting things in perspective to achieve order.
