Women Buddhist Clothing
Buddhist inspired clothing is really nothing new in the world of women’s fashion. Generations upon generations of fashion designers have sought to breathe new life in the most traditional forms of dress; and apparently, the nuns’ and monks’ clothes from Tibet have captured the imagination of many budding and veteran artists. Although there are many forms of Buddhism clothes, as seen in the various sects worldwide, (from Cambodia, Japan, Nepal, Vietnam, etc.) it is the Tibetan clothes worn by the monastic people that are garnering much attention when it comes to women’ fashion.
If you want a concrete example of traditional Tibet clothes making its way into the modern times, just take a look at the meditation skirts often seen as part of nuns’ and monks’ clothes. The long, decoration-free fabric reaches down to the ankles, often affording a lean triangular shape when worn; this is basically a wraparound skirt tied with the same-colored sash around the waist. Women’s fashion has always been partial to both ankle length skirts and wraparounds.
These days, the Buddhist inspired clothing, particularly the meditation skirts are coming out with various designs. Traditional Tibet clothes are made from cotton, but modern skirts come out in silk, rayon and even alpaca fibers. Colors (usually muted down and tame) are now coming out in striking designs, colors and ornamentations. The best thing about this new take on traditional Buddhism clothes, is the fact that the fabrics are coming out lighter in weight, using wrinkle-resistant fabrics and much easier on the pocket. Traditional women Buddhist clothing has definitely transitioned easily into the modern times.
