The Lokapalas, Jigten Kyong are “place guardians” or protective deities of the direction.
There are four guardians of the four cardinal points, and they are also the kings of several classes of supernatural beings, as follow. In accordance with the Standard iconography all four are normally shown as warriors, wearing and headdress or crown and they are distinguished by their different colour and particular attributes.
Virupaksha (Mig-Midang)
Guardian of the West, and the king of serpent deities Nagas, in Tib, LuiGyalbo, king of serpent is red in color and holds a serpent in his right hand and a jewel in his left.
Vaisravana (Namthoi-Sre)
He is known as Kubera, guardian of the North, and the king of the Yakshas, is yellow in colour and holds a banner of victory (Dhwaja) and a mongoose.
Dhritarastra (Yulkhor-Sung)
Guardian of the East and king of the celestial musicians called Gandharva (Diza) white colour and holds a stringed instrument.
Virudaka (Phag-Kyepo)
Guardian of the south and king of the malignant spirit called Khumbhanda (Tulbum) is dark blue in colour and holds a sword.
