This is known as the Serpent Power, another name for Shakti, the female energy. When it is asleep, it is coiled three and a half times with its tail in its mouth, at the bottom of the spinal column. When awakened, it hisses with a sibilant sound like a snake as it rises up until it joins the male principle in the Sahasrara chakra.
