Tara is known in five main forms (as well as many others) and the Taras are among the most powerful goddesses of the entire pantheon in the Tibetan Buddhism.
White Tara (Dolkar)
The White Tara or “White Savioress” is probably the form of Tara incarnate in thisun then princess of Nepal. As a legend, white Tara was born from a tear of the Bodhisatwa of compassion.
Avalokiteswora. She holds a very prominent position in Tibet. As she is being a companion of Avalokiteswora is also considered closely related to the Dalai Lama as himself is incarnation of Avalokiteswora. Tara is believed to protect the human beings while they are crossing the ocean of existence and is worshiped in order to promote and succeed the business.
Among the two forms of Tara, white Tara is regarded as consort of Avalokiteswora sometimes of Vairochana. She is usually portrayed seated, dressed and crowned like Boddisatwas. And sometimes she is regarded as Saptalochana or seven eyes Tara. Extra eyes on her forehead, palm and feet and lotus flower at one or both of her shoulder. She is related in full Vajra posture white in colour and peaceable manifestation.
Green Tara (Doljyant)
Green Tara or “Green Savioress” is probably the form of Tara incarnate in Wencheng the then princess of China. She is usually seen seated with the right leg hanging down, in green colour and peaceable manifestation with a dark blue lotus flower as a symbol. The green Tara is regarded as a consort of Amoghasiddhi one of the Dhyani Buddhas.
Blue Tara (Ekajata or Ral Chigma)
The Blue Tara or Ral Chigma means she who has but one “Chignon’ is supposedly an early Tibetan Goddess, who was overcame by Padmasambha. She is seen in Blue colour with a high red Chignon, with from one to twelve heads and from two to twenty four arms and is terrifying in manifestation.
Red Tara (Kurukulla)
The Red Tara is seen in red colour, in a dancing form, and in terrifying manifestation. Besides it, while it is in the manifestation of Kurukulla is worshipped for specially by unhappy lovers. She is considered the goddess of wealth. She is believed to be successful in bewitching men, women, ministers and the kings. “Om Kurkuulla Hum Hrim Svaha” is the mantra when muttered ten thousand times is said to be fulfilled of everyone desires.
Yellow Tara (Thong-Nyer Chhenma)
Yellow Tara, “She who frowns is seen in yellow colour, with one and more heads and up to eight arms, and in both peaceable and fierce manifestation.
