The asanas are physical exercises of stretching and limbering to make the body flexible, supple and youthful. They involve breathing — pranayama — ending in poses as khumbaka. The main purpose is to maintain a healthy constitution. However, here are yogic poses or postures combined with pranayama, which are intended to awaken latent forces in the body, particularly the kundalini, the female energy. The intention is to make it rise up the chakras or centers of energy through the spinal column to join the male energy located at the center of the head. This union is called yoga. This is inherent in the nature of Vajrayana practice.
